We arrived at 12:15 p.m.....checked in and went to the OR holding pens -- okay, rooms.
Can you tell how much he wants to be here? He was fine until he saw one of the doctors, and then he KNEW -- and he knew he didn't want to be here!
Jon doesn't want to be here either!!!!!
Kyle started to loosen up a bit, as different doctors and nurses started coming in to get information, and to talk to us.
One of the orthopedic residents, Alfonso, wanted to initial his neck -- he was having none of it, and kept jerking around.....so here are the "initials".I got to escort Kyle down to the OR and wait until he went to sleep -- this is me putting on my "Pillsbury Dough-boy" outfit -- Jon and Kyle were both very impressed -- UGHHHHH!
We headed down to the OR -- me pushing the wheelchair and being escorted by three anesthesiologists. I was amazed by the 10 people already in the OR -- none of them were the surgeons -- he climbed up on the table, and laid down, he was soo brave! I held his hand while he breathed in that great smelling "orange" nitrous oxide and he went to sleep....then I kissed him on the cheek and went to find Jon.
It's amazing the wide array of instruments, and monitors, big-screen monitor with the CT scans showing.....and all the good people who were so kind to Kyle and to me. It was kind of cute, because, they were going to put the pulse oximeter on his finger and Jerry, the anesthesiolgist, said, "No, we're going to wait on that -- he doesn't like it." Probably the only thing today that won't truly hurt -- and he hates it the worst.
Jon and I went and had cold corn dogs, a bag of chips and a drink in the cafeteria and complained about paying $10.18 for the less than wonderful food....We ate and then headed up to the Family Resource Center -- we've waited here before. It's quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of the hospital. There's a phone in our little nook, so that when we are paged we can get updates from the OR.
Our little nook -- with lots of plug-ins for the cell phones, computer, cameras....etc -- my black bag is sooo heavy -- we also have books and food -- we're set!
3:25 p.m -- still waiting......we haven't had a page to tell us the surgery has begun -- but I'm pretty sure it has. I think that waiting is the most difficult part. Kyle has had a couple of priesthood blessings. We have confidence in the doctors and nurses. We know that their knowledge and experience will be used to do their very best -- still the waiting is the hardest part of the day!
