Senior Prom

Kyle was invited to his Senior Prom by a cute gal named Alyssa.
Alyssa is a peer tutor and was so excited to go with Kyle -- she texted me.

Isn't texting awesome?  Just throwing that out there....

Told me about her dress so that we could get Kyle's tux and a corsage.
I, of course, was more excited than he was....they were going with two other couples.
Jordan and Mayaka
Trey and Sydney

I was a little bit nervous -- would the other kids at Prom be nice to him?
What if he needed to go to the bathroom and couldn't un-do his pants, tuck his shirt back in, and do his pants up?
You laugh at that question....but really -- it's a concern.

I found out that Miss Carol (Yaklich) and Mr. R (Russell Rogers) would be going to dinner with them and Mr. R. went to Prom -- and he was paid by the school -- because there were so many kids from the transition program that would be at Prom.  That made me feel better.  Mr. R. has been a part of our lives since Kyle was in the seventh grade and he is AWESOME!

We met at Jordan's house for pictures....

Kyle and Jordan

These two are great friends...
...they communicate spirit to spirit...because make no mistake, they do communicate with each other but neither is very verbal.

You don't think it's really a big deal to have a friend ~ unless you don't have one.  I'm so thankful that these two have each other....a friend is a glorious thing!

Miss Carol was instrumental in securing the opportunity for Kyle to volunteer at the Fire station.  She is the one who goes with him as his job coach.  She has been an aide with Jordan for nine years.  We love Miss Carol!

Putting on the corsage

OOOPPPS -- I mixed up the pictures....this is an up close and personal view of the corsage.  It was worth every penny!

It looked beautiful!

Alyssa and Kyle had a lot of fun making faces for pictures.

Love this picture!

Alyssa is so sweet and kind -- we are so glad that she and Kyle went to Prom.

Trey, Jordan and Kyle

They all drove together in the van with Jordan....and went to dinner at "The Rock" wood-fired pizza.

I had been given conflicting information....and the last I heard, none of the girls needed a ride home....so Jon and I got a room at the Courtyard Marriott on Lake Union.
This was the spectacular view!

We were not invited to go to dinner with the group -- imagine that -- not inviting your parents to dinner for Prom -- so we went to McCormick and Schmicks -- a frou frou seafood place.  The food was good -- but not worth the price -- in my opinion.  We did have a good time.  Then we went back to the hotel to wait until it was time to pick Kyle up from Prom.

The call came at 11:15 p.m. -- they were done dancing and lots of people were leaving.  We were also told that Alyssa didn't have a ride home.  So we checked out of the hotel....It was an expensive 3 hours!  We couldn't see the point in driving the 20 miles to take Alyssa home, and then driving the 20 miles back to spend the night at the hotel, when we could just go home.  We couldn't strand Alyssa -- and we didn't say anything....just picked them up!

It was a very fun night all around. And that's what matters most!

An adventure I wasn't sure we'd get to have with Kyle ~ he had a great time and we were so happy!
