Changes

Changes are a'comin'!

Here is the first one.

Goodbye Pergola!

What is a pergola you ask?
It's like an arbor or arbour
-- depending on how you want to spell it --

per·go·la

 noun \ˈpər-gə-lə,

Definition of PERGOLA
1
:  arbor, trellis
2
:  a structure usually consisting of parallel colonnades supporting an open roof of girders and cross rafters

AND/OR

pergola

noun    (Concise Encyclopedia)
Garden walk or terrace typically formed by two rows of columns or posts roofed with an open framework of beams and cross rafters over which plants are trained. Its purpose is to provide a foundation on which climbing plants can be viewed and to give shade. Known in ancient Egypt, pergolas were a common feature of early Renaissance gardens in Italy and subsequently throughout Europe. They had a marked revival during the Arts and Crafts Movement in Britain. See also arbor.

There you have it.
That is a Pergola.

We had one.
Now we don't.

This is what it looked like.

This is how it looked after we -- Jon and I --
tipped it over.
That's right....we both got on one side and just lifted it up
and tipped it over -- it was less than two inches in the ground
and not anchored at all!
A good stiff wind probably could have blown it over.

This is an example of the craftsmanship that went into the structure.
Or, should I say, LACK of craftsmanship?
Remember when I told you that Kurt taught me about craftsmanship?
Can you believe this?  The two-by-four was not
cut correctly and CARDBOARD was used as filler to make the pieces uniform.

There were possibly....10,000 screws holding the
thing together.
Okay....really, it was closer to 250 or 300....but there were a lot!

The pergola is completely down.
And we were not sad to see it go!
This is how it looks without it!

Much nicer.
Stay tuned for a few more changes in the future.
Getting rid of the pergola was a good start!
