Oh let me tell you a sad, sad tale, or maybe it's tail...
Anyway....
We actually, for a few moments on a hot Saturday afternoon, thought about getting a dog!
Yes, that's right, a four-legged, hairy, messy DOG!
Sunny insisted that we go to the Humane Society and rescue a pooch....so we went down there, to look at dogs....so did everyone else in the area! The place was packed! It was one of the first, real days of summer -- meaning it was hot (okay, hot for us -- you snobs who get hotter and think we're babies -- 80's is HOT!!!), and the sun was shining, and people were running around in shorts and tank tops, with their white legs gleaming, and sweat beading on their foreheads -- but I digress....
It was one of the first, real days of summer....we brought Dexter along, just-in-case we saw a dog we thought we might like, then the two could meet. What a great plan!
We went out to the dog buildings -- and can I say, that I almost got sick watching people coo over those nasty cats!
Kyle walked down the aisle, between the enclosures, and stopped about half-way down. Dead stop. Staring at the dog inside. Jon, Sunny and I were looking at the dogs, one by one, and discussing, color, breed, age, etc. Kyle just stood there staring. When we got down to him, the dog inside was standing, just staring at Kyle. The two didn't blink. Kyle would not look at another dog.
That's how we met Sherman.
And so, we filled out the paper, waited....waited....waited...
and finally got to meet Sherman. He was about a year old, had been a stray, but had been fostered in a good home. But still a puppy.
We fell in love with Sherman.
We were ready to go home with him....so we got Dexter, they met and played and wrestled, and it was a good fit. We put down a deposit to save him until we heard back from our landlords.
As we were getting in the car, the landlords called....they would like to do a new lease, if we got a dog. So, we didn't get the dog. Several factors --
1. I was not really happy that after 12 years, they wanted a new lease.
2. Jon is doing consulting work, and we aren't sure where we will end up in the long run....we hope to stay here, but you never know....and we are on a month to month rent basis -- not locked in to a lease, which would work to our advantage is we have to move.
3. By the time they got a new lease drawn up, we'd have lost our deposit and our dog anyway....I mean, it took 3 years to fix the whole in the ceiling from the water leak....so how long would it take for a new lease?
So -- all in all -- we were bummed for a couple of hours.
But in the long run....happy not to have a dog!
