October 24, 2009Kyle and I went to see "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at the 5th Avenue Theatre with Laura Price & Sarah and Susan Shoubridge.
Kyle was a bit unsure at first -- new environment, not a place he recognized -- he wouldn't look up for a picture -- but he took our picture just fine. When we went into the building and he was able to sit in the foyer and watch a video of upcoming shows, he settled down. We sat in the front row of the balcony -- many thanks to Sarah for getting us such great seats.
Before the show started I was taking pictures with my phone (how did I forget my camera?) and trying to get Kyle to loosen up. The inside of the Theatre is beautiful but I'm afraid the pictures just don't do it justice.
When we came in and sat down, the curtain to the stage was open and we could see the set. About 15 minutes before the show started, children from the chorus came onstage and juggled, jumped rope, etc. Kyle watched with great interest.
The lights went down, the music started and Kyle's jaw dropped! He recognized the music. The narrator came out on stage and began singing, his jaw dropped again and he was hooked! He sat mesmerized through the first half of the production. After intermission, while we waited for the show to start again, he leaned around me to the lady on my left, put his finger to his lips and told her to "Shhh". Then he enjoyed the rest of the show! We went to Red Robin for lunch on the way home. It was a great afternoon! I was so glad that we were able to go see the show and that he enjoyed it. He carries his program around and we have watched the movie many times since seeing the show and he's always ready to go back and see it again.
