Scott and Sunny moved from their apartment, because their lease is up.
Sunny had to work, but Scott was off, and had arranged with the missionaries to help them move the big heavy stuff. Jon can't do too much lifting right now....
....Jon, Scott and I had moved all of the boxes earlier in the week, so there was just the big stuff, couch, bed, dresser....etc.
Scott arranged with the missionaries to meet at 11 a.m. and they told him they were free all day to help. Scott and Jon rented a u-haul....the missionaries help load the truck, and then told Scott that they had an appointment at noon. I was running errands and showed up, just as they were leaving for the new apartment -- which is only half a mile away.
The missionaries left for their appointment -- we didn't know they were walking, or we'd have given them a ride there and picked them up --
Scott and I unloaded everything we could from the truck. We ate sandwiches and Sunny got home from work. There were only two things left on the truck....the couch, and the dresser. It was 1:00 p.m. and the truck had to be returned by 2 p.m.
We devised a plan. We would use the moving straps and each take a corner of the couch and get it up the stairs......the stairs are steep. With all of us, it was going smoothly.....our big mistake....we had Jon and Sunny on the end going up the stairs first, and Scott and I at the bottom....sort of lifting and pushing.
We lifted and pushed, and Jon's foot got stuck between the couch and the stair, and he fell.....from 4 stairs up (about 3 1/2 feet)....into a mud puddle. He tucked his arms in as he fell and his right hip took most of the impact. But we were so worried and scared, because we thought he had damaged his right ankle which is just healing.
A picture of the stairs...
He landed with his hip right in the space where the roots make a little "V".
He missed the white, metal rod sticking up, and missed hitting his head on the sewer pipe by inches. He also missed the portion of root that was sawed off.....he fell in the only spot where the least damage could be done. If he'd been impaled by the metal rod, or hit his head, it could have been disastourous.
I told him, "The Mama's were there. The cushioned your fall or directed it or something."
Jon said that he slid down the wall, so he doesn't know how he landed where he did. It happened in slow motion....at least it felt like it did.
Sunny and Jon went and picked up the Elders.....Scott and I got the couch into the apartment....the Elders helped moved the dresser, which I couldn't lift -- even with the straps....
we got the truck back in time.....and got Jon to the doctors office where they took x-rays....declared that he'd sprained his broken ankle, but that there was no permanent damage.
Yes, my friends, miracles happen!
Guardian angels are about us!
We are indeed blessed, and enjoying (mostly) our adventures!
