What a great day! We went for a drive up I-90 toward Snoqualmie Summit. The objective of our trip was to find river-rocks that Jon could use for his Primary class to use for their sharing time on forgiveness. He knew of a great place to get rocks.....he and the boys had gone camping there with the scouts a few years back. We drove to Tinkham Road -- got off the exit, but it didn't look "right", so we got back on the freeway, drove two exits more and found Tinkham Road again.....this was the road he remembered. We drove down a very nice dirt/rock road...it was gorgeous.....old forest, with a few places to pull off and camp -- should one be so inclined. We stopped by a pile of rocks on the side of the road, and while Jon looked for good rocks, Kyle went down near the bridge to throw rocks in the water.
The bridge is this way....notice the hands already full of just the right size rocks.
There was a small tributary -- Kyle was not impressed -- while we contemplated how to get closer to the river.
Back toward the bridge (above) -- Water flowing down to the river (below) this is the water Kyle was aiming for from the bridge
A County Sheriff's deputy came by, and Jon asked him where we could get closer to the river. As he was leaving, Kyle started waving goodbye.....he thought we were trying to flag him down, so he backed up. I explained that Kyle likes police officers and he was waving "good-bye". The officer responded by having a nice conversation with Kyle and giving him a sticker of a a Sheriff's star badge. Kyle was ecstatic.
We continued following the road, looking for a nice turn off with easy access to the river...we came around a corner -- and low and behold, we were at the first exit we'd taken -- we'd made a big loop. So we pulled off, went down a small path, not excessively steep path, and found many wonderful rocks.
What is it about throwing rocks? As humans, we throw them into rivers, lakes, streams and oceans. What makes it so satisfying? Is it the ripples the rocks make? The distinctive and pleasing sound of the splash? I have not figured out the connection, but it doesn't matter the age, the joy of throwing rocks never fades!
Kyle -- trying to decide if he wants to try coming down the path....
"Wait, Wait, Wait....."
"Splash"
An attempt at a portrait.
The day was gorgeous! Mid-70's, soft-dry air and blue sky.
Jon -- backing up -- sometimes the throw is not exactly straight!

Had to have a picture of the beautiful daisies. The reminded us of my mom.
