Orthotics

Today we went to Seattle Children's Hospital to have molds made of Kyle's feet....these will be turned into orthotics to go inside his shoes. He has such flat feet. The older he gets, and the more weight he carries the more is feet and ankles roll. This is not the root problem of the change in his gait, but orthotics could make him more comfortable and help in the long run. So we trekked over to Children's -- for those of you who know the route -- we made it in about 15 minutes....from Kirkland to the hospital.....very little traffic, green lights, and people moving. The only remarkable thing about the trip was the bald eagle that was perched atop a lightpole, mid-span on the bridge. Too bad it wasn't safe to take a picture.
Kyle -- so unhappy to take off his socks!
Finally! Both sock off.... This is Brian, the orthotics tech -- checking out Kyle's feet before making the molds.
Kyle looks happy huh?
This is the foam they use to make the molds. It's very like florists foam....Brian had Kyle practice by making holes with his fingers.

Next, we pushed Kyle's foot and knee and made an imprint of his foot. He did not like the texture of the foam, but we got two (one of each foot) usable molds on the first try.

Jon called just as we were leaving the hospital and we went to Fat Burger and had "unch" -- Fries are always the reward for enduring a visit to the "docotor"
Below: Kyle making "Bunny Ears" on Jon for the picture and giggling because Jon didn't know.
All in all, a good and easy visit -- fitting in three weeks.
